Plasticana reduces the use of petroleum by using renewable carbon derived from photosynthesis: HEMP. A blend of PVC and natural fibers, Plasticana is 100% recyclable, to infinity and beyond,
No dyes, this is the natural color of the fiber; each pair is different and unique.
FROM PHOTOSYNTHESIS : Plasticana is committed to reducing the use of petroleum in plastics by using renewable carbon derived from photosynthesis: HEMP.
This plant was chosen because:
- it grows at all latitudes.
- it sequesters as much or more carbon in 4 months of cultivation as a forest in our temperate countries does in 12 months of growth!!
- the strength of its textile component reinforces the plastic into which it is mixed,
- the sugars it contains naturally color the material a caramel tone, which avoids the use of chemical pigments.
- Each piece has a unique color
TO SYNTHETIC MATERIAL : Plasticana only accepts the use of recyclable (or recycled) plastics in the mixture with hemp reduced to fiber. Among these, the vinyl families are preferred as they have a lower dependence on petroleum (57% comes from salt, and the remaining 43% of ethylene could be made from sugar plants like sugar beets in the future).
Their various formulations comply with the European Reach program.
Their production sites are managed under the ISO 14001 environmental standard and are located in France, as are the hemp fields used for the industry…
TO THE SYNTHETIC RE-SOURCE : Plasticana products can go through existing processes for their recycling.
Once turned back into granules, they can be given a new life cycle in a new form,
They all have the same destiny: to be able to become a material for future generations once again!
Andre Ravachol : Founder of the Plasticana brand in 1998, André Ravachol fights for the union of the technological heritages of the plastics and hemp farming industries.
Creator of eco-materials, he collaborates with the Humeau-Beaupréau group, which has been manufacturing Plasticana shoes since 2008.
The story begins in 1946 in Sarraix, near Thiers in the Puy-de-Dôme, the year the famous beach sandal—now emblematic of the Méduse brand—was created.
A soft plastic sandal, recognizable by its studded sole, rounded toe, and braided straps. In the aftermath of the Second World War, leather was scarce, and the innovative nature of plastic gave Joseph Dauphant, a cutler, the idea for a shoe made entirely from this material. Highly innovative, it combined a new material with a new technique: injection molding.
Today, Méduse continues to manufacture and sell the original model. The timelessly designed sandal has not changed since its origins.
The Méduse brand has since diversified, creating new sandal models for the summer, as well as boots and clogs for the rain and the garden.
Created and manufactured in Western France (some are manufactured in Morocco), all products in the Méduse range are made from phthalate-free plastics and are 100% recyclable.
The Méduse brand is a registered trademark of the Humeau-Beaupréau Group.
