To extend their exceptional lifespan, our tools are pre-treated by Seth: the metal parts are coated with a clear matte varnish, and the wooden handles are waxed.
These protective layers will help prevent damage caused by rust and moisture.
To take care of your great tools, here are a few simple steps to follow:
- After use, wipe them down with a cloth and store them in a dry place if possible.
- Protect the steel with our Niwaki Camellia oil or another protective oil to prevent rust.
- Clean dirt and rust off the steel with our Niwaki Crean Mate scouring "eraser".
- Oil or wax the handle from time to time.
- For tools with a sharpened edge, sharpen them regularly using our Smith’s sharpening stone or a tool file.
Red Pig is a family-owned forge. It produces traditional garden tools of the highest quality, the old-fashioned way, by hand:
« We use steel, fire, anvil, and good, honest sweat »
These handcrafted tools are stronger, sharper, and will last longer than any others you will find on the market.
They have been made since 1989 by Seth Pauley and his team in Oregon, USA.
