Yukio Yamai created Snow Peak in 1958, in reference to Mount Tanigawa, a Japanese mountain famous for its beauty. The quality, technology and robustness of Snow Peak products make it the benchmark brand in Japanese outdoor.

Yukio Yamai founded Snow Peak in 1958, inspired by Mount Tanigawa, a Japanese mountain famous for its beauty, but also for its danger and the many failures of mountaineers attempting to reach its glorious summit.
Drawing on his personal experiences (he reached the summit several times himself), he created innovative mountaineering equipment, utilizing the expertise of renowned metalworkers in Sanjo (the city where our tools and some Niwaki knives are produced).
In the 1970s, his son Tohru decided to expand the brand's offering into camping and the outdoor lifestyle.
His sense of frustration and disconnection while in the city would disappear when spending time in nature—a sort of healing, restorative, and revitalizing experience.
Today, Snow Peak’s mission remains the same: to offer and create restorative outdoor experiences that alleviate the stresses of modern life and reconnect us to the rhythms of the natural world.
