ANCIENT KNOWLEDGE: Froissartage is inspired by various traditional rural construction techniques, the simplest of which, ideal for beginners, is the mortise and tenon joint. This technique allows for the creation of almost any imaginable structure without nails or screws, using rudimentary tools and the materials found around us.

FROISSARTAGE: For its creator, froissartage is “a great game in nature: using almost nothing, through old methods, to be useful and become skilled.” As a young farmer, Michel Froissart began his thinking by observing the movements of farmers in their daily activities: how to build fences, carts, seats, frames, furniture, etc.

In the 1930s, having become a scout district leader, Michel Froissart wanted to teach young people how to set up a camp in harmony with the forest and with minimal tools. He thus developed his method, a technique without nails or screws based on the principle of assembly with mortise and tenon joints. Still used by scouts and all wilderness enthusiasts, froissartage is practiced with respect for nature, calls upon resourcefulness, and is primarily intended for camp furniture.
