These protective layers will help prevent damage caused by rust and moisture.
To take care of your great tools, here are a few simple steps to follow:
- After use, wipe them down with a cloth and store them in a dry place if possible.
- Protect the steel with our Niwaki Camellia oil or another protective oil to prevent rust.
- Clean dirt and rust off the steel with our Niwaki Crean Mate rust eraser.
- Oil or wax the handle from time to time.
- For tools with a sharpened edge, sharpen them regularly using our Smith’s sharpening stone or a tool file.

SETH PAULEY
Seth is a craftsman, writer, student of history, as well as a blacksmith and traveler.
A life devoted to the creative arts—from writing and ceramics to woodworking and now blacksmithing—Seth's interest in history and learning ancient crafts led him to research and discover his own manufacturing techniques.
Seth has followed an unconventional career path. He first taught creative writing and literature at Temple University in Philadelphia; he is the co-founder of a literary magazine; he has written and edited for various publications related to arts and culture; and he spent many years supporting small American family-owned manufacturers of high-quality products.
Now, he is putting all those skills acquired over the years to use by focusing on making Red Pig tools.
