A new unisex & all-terrain icon, essential for the beach, river swimming, summer in the city, or in the garden, the hemp Plasticana Surfana is a minimalist slip-on that is very supple & comfortable, inspired by surf booties.
- It is waterproof, perforated to let the skin breathe or to drain water,
- Robust & ultra-flexible, it hugs the foot perfectly.
- Its sole is non-slip so you won't slide on wet rocks (or sidewalks).
Plasticana reduces the use of petroleum by using renewable carbon derived from photosynthesis: HEMP. A blend of PVC and natural fibers; Plasticana is 100% recyclable, to infinity and beyond :) No dyes, it's the natural color of the fiber; each pair is different and unique.
(In truth, for the backstory, it was created by André Ravachol in 2004, well before the Gardana clog launched in 2009. Like the clog, its form follows its function; it is a utilitarian design, originally developed for the needs of surfers on the Atlantic coast.)
FROM PHOTOSYNTHESIS : Plasticana is committed to reducing the use of petroleum in plastics by using renewable carbon derived from photosynthesis: HEMP.
This plant was chosen because:
- it grows at all latitudes.
- it captures as much or more carbon in 4 months of cultivation as a forest in our temperate countries in 12 months of growth!!
- the strength of its textile fibers reinforces the plastic into which it is mixed,
- the sugars it contains naturally color the material a caramel tone, which avoids the use of chemical pigments.
- Each piece has a unique color
TO SYNTHETIC MATERIAL : Plasticana only accepts the use of recyclable (or recycled) plastics in the blend with hemp reduced to fibers. Among these, vinyl families are preferred as they have a lower dependence on petroleum (57% derived from salt, and the remaining 43% of ethylene could be made from sugar plants like sugar beets in the future).
Their various formulations comply with the European REACH program.
Their production sites are managed under the ISO 14001 environmental standard and are located in France, as are the hemp fields used for the industry…
TO SYNTHETIC RE-SOURCING : Plasticana products can go through existing processes for their recycling.
Once they have become granules again, they can be given a new life cycle in a new form,
They all share the same destiny: to be able to become a material for future generations once again!
