Let's chat with our spring friend 🎶

Returning from migration, around March-April, it announces the arrival of sunny days!

The Barn Swallow does not fear man and nests in his proximity, often immediately. You can try to attract a pair of swallows to your home. All you need is a quiet space, a garage, a storage room or a barn for example, with permanent access. If you are lucky enough to have a couple in your home, they will come back every year!

Using a call means learning to recognize birds by their song, communicating with them, discovering them, observing them…

A call is above all an educational nature game for fun, because we believe that we need to “know nature better to better protect it”.

Each call is delivered in a pretty wooden box, with all the information necessary for its use.

Material: Polished beech

Handcrafted in France

The usual call is a "vit" or "uit," isolated, often emitted in flight. It can be repeated or linked into small stanzas like "tsi di dit" or "si si sit" during interactions. The song is a long, melodious warble, in which one finds the tone of the calls, ending with a syllable stretched into a grating trill.

To imitate its melodious song, the wooden bird call is held between the thumb and index finger. You must blow gently, in very light, short bursts. Blow and inhale while rolling your tongue to vary the sound produced by the bird call.

François Morel shows you how to use the bird call:  click here 🎵

Quelle Est Belle Company bird calls have been handcrafted for over 40 years by François Morel and his team in the Drôme region, on a farm nestled in the heart of lush, unspoiled nature.

It is there that he designs, painstakingly develops, and tests all his creations.

Each bird call is unique, turned, assembled, and varnished by hand.

He uses only natural, local wood species, such as boxwood, beech, or linden.

There are only 2 bird call manufacturers left in France; the other is dedicated to hunting.

“You might think I’m a bit of a crackpot, but oh well…”

From the age of 6, François Morel (not the actor, mind you) began to get fascinated by birds.

“I’m completely crazy about them, that’s for sure. When I was really little, what I wanted was to talk to animals. Personally, I believe it works. Thanks to my vocal tools, I manage to get a bit closer to the birds, listen to them, answer them, and have, from time to time, some exchanges…”

A naturalist and ornithologist, François Morel is devoted to the craft of making bird calls. Rather than using them to kill, François wanted the calls to become a tool for observing birds.

To create these instruments, he combines two qualities. “It’s a story of craftsmanship and a love story.”

He set up his company “Quelle est belle company” more than forty years ago in the Diois, in the north of the Drôme.

Fun fact 😉: Björk recently fell in love with his work. She released a Deluxe version of her album “Utopia” accompanied by 14 bird calls, the “Utopia Bird Call Box,” manufactured by QBC.
