HATCHET - VIZCAINA - 500G - PALLARES SOLSONA
Hand-forged, this hatchet is versatile, efficient, and compact—just as useful for DIY and gardening as it is for any outdoor excursion,
Ideal for all woodworking tasks, from limbing to carving or setting up your bivouac.
On this simple construction model, the head is fitted from the bottom of the handle; the handle being oval and tapered, the head is locked in place in one motion. Due to the friction of the head when wedging it on, there may be black marks on the handle, as every product is different.
Head: 500 g / Handle: 41 cm
Each piece is unique, finished and sharpened by hand.
Handcrafted by Pallares, blacksmiths since 1917 in Solsona, at the foot of the Spanish Pyrenees.
To extend their exceptional lifespan, the tools are pre-treated by PALLARES: the metal parts are oiled and the wooden handles are waxed. These protective layers will help prevent damage caused by rust and moisture.
To take care of your great tools, here are a few simple steps to follow:
- After use, wipe them with a cloth and store them in a dry place if possible.
- Protect the steel with our Niwaki Camellia oil or another protective oil to prevent rust.
- Clean dirt and rust off the steel with our Niwaki Crean Mate scouring block.
- Oil or wax the handle from time to time.
- For tools with a sharpened edge, sharpen them regularly.
- The handle wood shifts, and the head may loosen. In this case, gently tap the wedge with a hammer to expand the wood and secure the tool head.
Solsona is a preserved small town in Catalonia, at the foot of the Pyrenees, where the knife industry is a tradition dating back to the 16th century.
This industry reached its peak in the 18th century, counting 24 workshops grouped within the guild of Saint-Eloi, the patron saint of cutlers. Today, only one remains... that of Pallares.
The Pallares company was founded in 1917 by brothers Lluis and Carles Pallares Canal. It is now managed by David Pallares, the 3rd generation of master cutlers.
If Pallares still exists, it is because, unlike the other artisans in the town, it managed to modernize in the 1960s and expand its market to the rest of Spain and Europe.
It is also, and above all, thanks to the quality of its steels and the sharpness of its blades, all of which are finished and sharpened by hand!
Famous for its knives, the artisanal company still produces hand-forged garden tools in the purest Catalan tradition. Highly functional and efficient, they are magnificent testaments to ancestral craftsmanship.
