BOX OF 20 JAPANESE OIL PASTELS - CRAY-PAS - SAKURA
Lovely vintage box of 20 CRAY-PASS pastels with rich, dense colors.
In Japan, you would say "Natsukashiii!", "it reminds us of the good old days" :)
It was in 1925 that Sakura invented the CRAY-PASS, the very first oil pastel in history! later adopted by the whole world,
The name "Cray-Pas" is a contraction of "Crayon" and "Pastel," signaling that it combines the best of both: the ease of a crayon and the creamy texture of a pastel.
The Cray-Pas was initially designed for children as part of a new Japanese educational art theory promoting free drawing and creativity, a concept considered revolutionary at the time.
They are generally made in Japan, depending on arrivals there may be products made in Vietnam.
