“A good hoeing is worth two waterings! »

The hoe helps aerate and loosen the soil, it allows air, earthworms and rain to do their work in decompacted soil. It promotes water penetration into the soil and reduces evaporation.

The hoe is also ideal for scraping, weeding, weeding and cutting the roots around your plants without damaging your crops.

The handle is made of Hickory, a typical American wood, hard and resistant.

The hoe is forged by Seth Pauley and his team in Oregon, USA. Old-fashioned work, by hand:

“We use steel, fire, anvil, and good, honest sweat”*

Each tool is unique and different.

Exceptional tools, extremely solid and practical, designed to be passed down from generation to generation.

* “We use steel, fire, an anvil and our good, honest sweat”

To extend their exceptional lifespan, our tools are pre-treated by Seth, with metal parts coated in a transparent matte varnish and wooden handles waxed.

These protective layers will help prevent damage caused by rust and moisture.

To take care of your great tools, here are a few simple steps to follow:

- After use, wipe them down with a cloth and store them away from moisture if possible.

- Protect the steel with our Niwaki Camellia oil or another protective oil to prevent rust.

- Clean dirt and rust off the steel with our Niwaki Crean Mate rust eraser.

- Oil or wax the handle from time to time.

- For tools with a sharpened edge, sharpen them regularly with our Smith's sharpening stone or a tool file.

Red Pig is a family-owned forge. It produces traditional garden tools of the highest quality, the old-fashioned way, by hand:

« We use steel, fire, anvil, and good, honest sweat »

They have been made since 1989 by Seth Pauley and his team in Oregon, USA.

SETH PAULEY

Seth is a craftsman, writer, student of history, as well as a blacksmith and traveler.

A life devoted to the creative arts—from writing to ceramics to woodworking and now blacksmithing—Seth's interest in history and learning ancient crafts led him to research and develop his own manufacturing techniques.

Seth has followed an unconventional career path. He first taught creative writing and literature at Temple University in Philadelphia; he is the co-founder of a literary magazine; he has written and edited for various arts and culture publications; and he spent many years supporting small, family-owned American manufacturers of high-quality products.

Now, he is applying all these skills acquired over the years to focus on crafting Red Pig tools.
