Made of terracotta, this watering can inspired by the shape of a gourd is handcrafted by an artisan in the south of France,

The "Chantepleure" (singing-weeping watering can) takes its name from the soft murmurs it makes as it fills and drains: it "sings" while filling and "weeps" when the water is released 🎶

This object has spanned the centuries; in the Middle Ages, gardeners used it to draw collected rainwater to irrigate their crops.

Usage: Simply immerse the Chantepleure in a bucket filled with water. You may prefer rainwater, which is excellent for plants. Once the Chantepleure is submerged in the water, cover the top opening with your thumb to hold the water in. Position yourself over your plants and lift your finger; the water will flow out in a fine spray through the watering head.

BACSAC®, born in Paris in 2008, is a French company that creates soft plant containers and gardening tools.

While nature is the source of inspiration for BACSAC®, the city is their preferred playground. Lack of access to open ground, contaminated soil, weight and space constraints: a BACSAC® is a plot of land on the pavement.

The ambition of BACSAC® is to offer a relevant, practical, and sustainable solution to the multiple challenges posed by the reintroduction of nature in the city and to address all space configurations: from the smallest balcony to large landscaping projects.

"THE CITY IS A GARDEN, LET US CULTIVATE ITS EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY."

BACSAC® was born in Paris in 2008, from an inspired meeting between a designer passionate about nature, Godefroy de Virieu, and two landscape architects committed to bringing nature back into the city, Virgile Desurmont and Louis de Fleurieu.

Together, they dreamed of a freer urban nature, unburdened by weight and space constraints, and set out in search of an alternative to the traditional range of pots that would address the challenges posed by creating a corner of nature.

They invented a new type of geotextile container – flexible, lightweight, and portable. The idea of planting in bags stems from this desire to change habits, to value what should be valued – plants – and to return to the simple principle of containing soil to cultivate it. A fabric to which they gave shapes and uses, allowing for the cultivation of the city in its every nook and cranny. Aesthetic, intelligent, and simple-to-use objects, at the crossroads of design and landscape architecture.

Since then, the roots of BACSAC® have branched out to sneak onto windowsills, balconies, terraces, and gardens in many cities around the world, facilitating access to soil in response to concrete.

BACSAC® is a human-scale company guided by a family spirit and open to the world.

All designs are conceived in the BACSAC® Parisian studio, the fabrics come from French and Italian suppliers, and the manufacturing is carried out by their long-standing partner in Romania.
