HORI HORI - HAND-FORGED MULTIFUNCTION GARDEN KNIFE - RED PIG TOOLS
Inspired by the traditional Japanese Hori-hori, the American version from Red Pig is renowned for its exceptional durability and efficiency. This essential tool combines the functions of a trowel, knife, saw, gouge, and root cutter.
Its concave blade allows for precise digging, while its sharpened edge and serrated side make it easy to cut roots, divide perennials, or cut through bags of potting soil effortlessly.
The handle is made of hickory, a classic American wood that is hard and resistant.
Each tool is unique and different. An exceptional tool, extremely solid and practical, designed to be passed down from generation to generation.
Red Pig Tools is a family forge. They craft high-quality, traditional garden tools, the old-fashioned way, by hand:
« We use steel, fire, anvil, and good, honest sweat »*
These handcrafted tools are stronger, sharper, and will last longer than any others you will find on the market.
They have been made since 1989 by Seth Pauley and his team in Oregon, USA.

To extend their exceptional lifespan, our tools are pre-treated by Seth, with metal parts coated in a transparent matte varnish and wooden handles waxed.
These protective layers will help prevent damage caused by rust and moisture.
To take care of your great tools, here are a few simple steps to follow:
- After use, wipe them down with a cloth and, if possible, store them in a dry place.
- Protect the steel with our Niwaki Camellia oil or another protective oil to prevent rust.
- Clean dirt and rust off the steel with our Niwaki Crean Mate scouring "gum".
- Oil or wax the handle from time to time.
- For tools with a sharpened edge, sharpen them regularly with our Smith’s sharpening stone or a tool file.

SETH PAULEY
Seth is an artisan, writer, student of history, as well as a blacksmith and traveler.
A life devoted to the creative arts—from writing and ceramics to woodworking and now blacksmithing—Seth’s interest in history and the study of ancient crafts led him to research and discover his own manufacturing techniques.
Seth has followed an unconventional career path. He first taught creative writing and literature at Temple University in Philadelphia; he is the co-founder of a literary journal; he has written and edited for various publications related to arts and culture; and he spent many years supporting small, family-owned American manufacturers of high-quality products.
Now, he is putting all those skills acquired over the years to work to focus on crafting Red Pig tools.
