SNOW PEAK
Yukio Yamai founded Snow Peak in 1958, named after Mount Tanigawa, a Japanese mountain famous for its beauty but also its danger, and the many failed attempts by climbers to reach its glorious summit.
Drawing on his personal experiences (he reached its summit multiple times himself), he created innovative mountaineering equipment, utilizing the expertise of renowned Sanjo metalworkers (the city where our tools and some Niwaki knives are produced).
In the 70s, his son Tohru decided to expand the range to include camping and outdoor lifestyle gear.
His feelings of frustration and disconnection while in the city would vanish when spending time in nature, a form of healing that was both salvific and revitalizing.
Today, Snow Peak's mission remains the same: to offer and create restorative outdoor experiences to alleviate the stresses of modern life and reconnect with the rhythms of the natural world.
