MINI-KOGATANA - LEATHER SHEATH - ODDITY X MAGASIN VIVANT!
"Kogatana" literally means "small knife" (Ko = small, Gatana = knife/blade).
This mini-Kogatana, handy and precise, is a small all-purpose knife. A tool used in Japan for daily tasks, crafts, floral art, and working with wood, leather, or paper.
It is the equivalent of a craft utility knife, with a rigid and sharpenable blade. Convenient to store, it is sold with a cowhide leather sheath and a long adjustable cord. It can be worn around the neck, but WARNING danger, there is no security mechanism to hold the sheath in place.
The carbon steel blade has a "Kurouchi" finish, meaning it is very raw; its appearance differs from one knife to another, making every piece unique. Carbon steel can rust, so please read the care instructions carefully. 👇🏼
We created this mini-Kogatana in collaboration with ODDITY, a creative and cultural space, the venue where we are hosting our December pop-up.
- Dimensions: 70 x 22 mm
- Thickness: 2 mm
- Steel: 52100 CARBON: appreciated for its exceptional combination of hardness, wear resistance, and toughness (impact resistance)
- Sheath and cord: genuine cowhide leather
- Hardness: 61+ HRC
- Traditionally made in Vietnam by the Dao Vua Cooperative, with whom we are already developing our MV knife line!
- Hand wash with water, no dishwasher, no detergent
- Clean the blade with water after each use, especially if it has been in contact with corrosive foods (citrus fruits)
- Avoid soaking the handle or the blade
- Dry thoroughly; this is very important to prevent the carbon steel from oxidizing
- Store individually, outside of the sheath
- Protect the blade with our camellia oil or a protective oil if you are not using it regularly
- Sharpen regularly; do not wait until it loses its edge to keep the blade in perfect condition
- If rust does appear, don’t worry, there are several very simple techniques. We recommend using our Crean Mate rust eraser, or rubbing it with white vinegar.
