The story begins in 1946 in Sarraix, near Thiers in the Puy-de-Dôme, the year THE famous beach sandal was created, now iconic for the Méduse brand.
A flexible plastic sandal, recognizable by its studded sole, rounded toe, and braided straps. In the aftermath of the Second World War, leather was scarce, and the innovative nature of plastic gave Joseph Dauphant, a cutler, the idea for a shoe made entirely from this material. Highly innovative, it combined a new material and a new technique: injection molding.
Today, Méduse continues to manufacture and sell the original model. The sandal with the timeless design has not changed since its origins.
The Méduse brand has since diversified, creating new sandal models for the summer, as well as boots and clogs for rain and gardening.
